After an extended weekend of feasting in Heidelberg, we were lucky enough to be invited to stay at our friends’ family house in a small village half way to Frankfurt, called Zwingenberg. It was very quaint and stereotypically German:
We took an excursion to Bensheim, where I loved the way they painted their buildings:
And another excursion to the unfortunately named Darmstadt (when translated directly, its name means ‘Intestine City’), where we visited the Mathildenhöhe:
And finally we stopped in Frankfurt before flying back to Italy. Frankfurt has a bad reputation as being a ‘boring grey business city.’ We however, were spoilt with blue skys, a vibrant city (especially as Germany were playing a game in the football world cup), a Dieter Rams exhibition, good kebabs (from a river boat shop) and a cool old town to amble around.
Germany has some beautiful buildings and it is so neat and ordered.
The buildings are very cool.
